Impending changes to Interim Animal Movements Regime
19 August 2002
Members may be aware that DEFRA has recently announced changes to the Interim Animal Movements Regime. These changes, which are scheduled to take effect from Friday 6 September, have been detailed in two press releases (8 and 14 August) on the Department's website.
Prior to this announcement, DEFRA had consulted with the RCVS Certification Sub-Committee over the certificates to be signed by private veterinary surgeons when certifying the conditions to be met under these new rules.
Vets will be required to inspect isolation breeding units and confirm that certain conditions have been met. They will also be required to inspect animals for signs of disease 14-20 days after the animals have arrived on the unit and to retain a record of the visit.
DEFRA is due to distribute the necessary forms and additional guidance to livestock producers towards the end of this month. Further information may be obtained from DEFRA's website or on their Public Enquiries line: 08459 335577. Members of the BVA may also wish to refer to the BVA's website for any further information.
