History

We hold a unique collection of books, archives, artefacts and memorabilia which together offer an insight into the evolution of the British veterinary profession.

One of three major veterinary collections in the UK, our historical book collection contains copies of all the major authors’ works dating from 1514. Our veterinary archive logs and tracks our evolving professions, so we remain guided by the lessons of history.

Whether you are studying an aspect of the development of the profession or are interested in finding out more about a veterinary family member or the role of vets in society, we invite you to discover our Historical Collection and archives.

We have also been involved in a number of collaborative projects that explore the development of the veterinary profession and add to the historical knowledge base.
