History
We hold a unique collection of books, artefacts and memorabilia which together offer an insight into the evolution of the British veterinary profession.
One of three major veterinary collections in the UK, our Historical Collection contains copies of all the major authors’ works in the veterinary sphere dating from 1514.
We encourage use of our Historical Collection and archives by researchers whether you are studying some aspect of the development of the profession, interested in finding out more about a veterinary family member or interested in the role of vets in society. Highlights from the collections are now available to view online at RCVS Vet History Digital Collections.
RCVS Knowledge is involved in a number of collaborative projects that explore the development of the veterinary profession and add to the historical knowledge base.
