VetTeamAMR

VetTeamAMR is an initiative that champions the responsible use of antimicrobials within companion animal, farm animal, and equine veterinary teams. This major collaborative project, part sponsored by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, brings together a cross-industry consortium to use and create the evidence base to support continuous improvements at the point of care. The project provides:

  • Audit and benchmarking tools for veterinary teams to measure and track change.
  • A unified point for the professions, created in collaboration with the major veterinary organisations, to access free online learning.
  • A community of veterinary professionals to network and share lessons on a national scale.
  • Annual antimicrobial stewardship awards to celebrate excellence
  • A hub of freely accessible, evidence-based knowledge and resources from us and others about antimicrobial use, covering antibiotics and anti-parasiticides, including anthelmintics.

By using an evidence-based approach, we will ensure that antimicrobials are only used when necessary.

Why is this important?

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest threats that we face today. If antimicrobials are not used responsibly, common conditions will become life-threatening to both people and animals worldwide.

We must all work together to stop unnecessary antimicrobial use and fight resistance across human, animal and environmental health.

Antimicrobial Stewardship Awards

The Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Awards aim to recognise and showcase practical examples of individuals and/or teams who are driving continuous improvements in responsible antimicrobial use using recognised Quality Improvement methods.

The awards are open to anyone who works within the veterinary industry, including those from a practice setting, educators and students from under and postgraduate education. The award categories are:

  • Companion animal

Applicants should be able to demonstrate how they have used recognised Quality Improvement methods and the resources available via rcvsknowledge.org/AMR to result in measurable improvements in the responsible use of antimicrobials.

Applications could encompass a strategic approach across a large practice group or across a geographical area or be a very specific project for a team or individual.
