VetTeamAMR
VetTeamAMR is an initiative that champions the responsible use of antimicrobials within companion animal, farm animal, and equine veterinary teams. This major collaborative project, part sponsored by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, brings together a cross-industry consortium to use and create the evidence base to support continuous improvements at the point of care. The project provides:
- Audit and benchmarking tools for veterinary teams to measure and track change.
- A unified point for the professions, created in collaboration with the major veterinary organisations, to access free online learning.
- A community of veterinary professionals to network and share lessons on a national scale.
- Annual antimicrobial stewardship awards to celebrate excellence
- A hub of freely accessible, evidence-based knowledge and resources from us and others about antimicrobial use, covering antibiotics and anti-parasiticides, including anthelmintics.
By using an evidence-based approach, we will ensure that antimicrobials are only used when necessary.
Why is this important?
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest threats that we face today. If antimicrobials are not used responsibly, common conditions will become life-threatening to both people and animals worldwide.
We must all work together to stop unnecessary antimicrobial use and fight resistance across human, animal and environmental health.
What can you do next?
Equine teams
- Use our free VetTeamAMR Antibiotic Audit: A tool to help practices audit their antibiotic use and prescribing behaviours. This can be used to audit antibiotic use for clinical conditions or to take a closer look at specific antibiotics.
- Become an Antibiotic Guardian on the VetTeamAMR Learning Platform by accessing free CPD. Increase your knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship and build confidence in making prescribing decisions. Users can achieve four levels of Antibiotic Guardian Status; Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. We are challenging every practice to have at least one Gold Antibiotic Guardian.
- Apply to the RCVS Knowledge AMS Awards. Showcase your achievements and share your projects to become a Champion and inspire the profession.

Antimicrobial Stewardship Awards
The Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Awards recognise and showcase practical examples of teams who are driving continuous improvements in responsible antimicrobial use using recognised Quality Improvement methods.
The awards are open to anyone who works within the veterinary industry, including those from a practice setting and organisations working towards improving their responsible antimicrobial use (AMU).
Applications must demonstrate how clinical audit has been used to achieve measurable achievements in their area of work.
