Collaborations
RCVS Knowledge is involved in a number of collaborative projects that explore the development of the veterinary profession and add to the historical knowledge base.
Capturing Life in Practice from the 20th to the 21st Century
An exciting new project, in collaboration with the British Library and The Centre for Rural Economy, aims to conduct in-depth interviews with a wide range of vets, their colleagues and families - to discover and record how veterinary practice has changed and evolved in the UK, with a view to developing the material as an evidence-based resource for veterinary education.
Pioneers and Professionals
A collaboration with Imperial College London and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC); supporting a studentship entitled ‘Veterinary training and veterinary work: a female perspective, 1919-2000’. The knowledge gained from understanding the veterinary profession’s recent feminisation may strengthen the evidence base that underpins efforts to rebalance the student intake, and feed into other work in progress that is looking at ways and means to encourage minority groups to join the profession.
Project update - We are thrilled to announce that RCVS Knowledge grant holder Julie Hipperson has successfully completed her PhD entitled ‘Veterinary training and veterinary work: a female perspective, 1919 – 2000’.
Bristol Class of '54
We were approached to support Professor Sarah Baillie in this project to research and document the extraordinary story of the first veterinary year to graduation from Bristol Vet School in 1954 – the Class of ‘54. We hope this project will encourage wider interest in the history of all the UK veterinary schools.
