Veterinary Evidence awarded DOAJ Seal
4 May 2018
Veterinary Evidence, our flagship online journal, has been awarded the DOAJ Seal in recognition of its publishing standards, adherence to best practice and high level of openness.
In being given the Seal, Veterinary Evidence (VE) joins only 13 other veterinary medicine journals across the globe – and just eight in the UK – to receive a mark of certification from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The recognition comes hot on the heels of VE’s indexing in the leading applied life sciences database CAB Abstracts.
Alongside the award of the Seal, VE has also been accepted into the directory, meaning volumes and articles are fully indexed on the DOAJ website.
Professor Peter Cockcroft, Editor in chief of Veterinary Evidence, said the recognition from DOAJ is a reflection of our journal’s high standards.
“The Directory of Open Access Journals indexes high quality, peer-reviewed open access research journals,” he said.
“The award of the DOAJ Seal to Veterinary Evidence provides external assurance of the high quality standards to which the journal subscribes.”
The Directory of Open Access Journals has strict criteria for entry – encompassing quality control, presentation and ease of access – and even more stringent qualifiers for the Seal. It is not possible to apply for the DOAJ Seal directly; a journal can only submit to be indexed and is awarded the Seal if its submission is outstanding and meets additional parameters.
The DOAJ collaborated with three other organisations – including the World Association of Medical Editors – to co-author the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
