RCVS Knowledge presence at BSAVA Congress 2022

The RCVS Knowledge team are joining the delegates of the BSAVA Congress in Manchester from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th March 2022. The hybrid event is taking place at the Manchester Central Convention Complex, with all sessions, except for the "day in the life of" dramas and the showcasing sessions in the exhibition theatre, being live-streamed onto the virtual platform.
We are taking part in a variety of sessions throughout Congress, you can find us:
Thursday 24th March
A day in the life of: Anaesthesia Dramas – 10.50am-4pm (Live only)
Pam Mosedale, our Quality Improvement Clinical Lead, will be participating in the ‘A day in the life of: Anaesthesia Dramas’ stream in the Exchange Auditorium.
Using an example routine elective procedure in a brachycephalic breed, the panel will explore the concepts of informed consent, complication management and coping with owner complaints.
Other speakers include Elly Russell, Michael Stanford, Chris Shales, Ian Self and Matthew Rendle.
Profit and purpose: how can we have both? – 10.50am-11.40am
The quality and cost paradox in veterinary practice – 11.50am-12.40pm
Chris Gush, our Executive Director, will be joining Ernie Ward and Richard Casey for discussions under the Module ‘The Price of Service’ in Charter 3.
The first session will discuss why both profit and purpose are necessary for sustained and meaningful success and fulfilment, what metrics to focus on to measure both profit and purpose and strategies to develop alignment between profit and purpose.
The second debate will explore what is really meant by high-quality veterinary medicine, the psychology and belief system behind the cost vs quality paradox, and the actual cost of providing veterinary care in 2022.
Thursday 24th March and Friday 25th March
Canine Cruciate Registry: An update – 12.50pm-2pm (Live only)
Visit the Exhibition Theatre to learn more about the RCVS Knowledge Canine Cruciate Registry (CCR). Mark Morton, CCR Clinical Lead, will be giving an update on the registry and data collected so far. The team will also be on hand, demonstrating how to use the registry, answering questions, advising how the registry can help you, and giving you the opportunity to register.
Saturday 26th March
A day in the life of: Reproduction Dramas – 9.00am-5.40pm (Live only)
Sally Everitt, our inFOCUS Clinical Support Lead, is joining an expert panel in the Exchange Auditorium, to look at the evidence to support neutering and timings, and explore how to make the best of your nursing team, how to help when things go wrong, and how to get help if events are overwhelming.
Other panelists include Julian Hoad, Angelika Von Heimendahl, Carrie Braid, Sophie Lawson, Elly Russell, Libby Kemkaran-Thompson, and Neil Smith.
Antimicrobial usage: How do we protect our future? – 4.50pm -5.40pm
Angela Rayner, Quality Improvement Advisor, will join Fergus Allerton, Ian Battersby, Elizabeth McLennan Green, and Simon Cook in Charter 3 during this discussion looking at guidelines on antibiotic stewardship, the reasons for it, and the evidence to support the PROTECT ME Poster.
