Profession's views sought on practice standards
30 May 2003
Last week, the RCVS sent a consultation paper to members on a review of current practice standards schemes and the future of practice standards in the veterinary profession. This is the College's third major consultation exercise in under a year and ties in with the proposals of the Education Strategy Steering Group and the review of the Veterinary Surgeons Act.
The Practice Standards Working Party (PSWP) is chaired by the Chairman of RCVS Advisory Committee, Lynne Hill, and includes representatives from the British Veterinary Association (BVA), British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA), British Veterinary Hospital Association (BVHA), British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) and British Cattle Veterinary Association (BCVA).
The consultation, which can also be downloaded below, seeks views from the practising arm of the profession and follows a similar format to previous consultations, posing a number of questions to assist those wishing to respond. The list of questions (which may be downloaded separately) is not exhaustive and any other comments are welcomed. The working party will take into account responses to the VSA consultation that relate to practice standards.
The RCVS is very grateful to all those who have responded to the previous consultations and hopes that the profession's response to the current consultation will be just as healthy.
All responses should be submitted in writing/by email to Gordon Hockey, RCVS, Belgravia House, 62-64 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 2AF or [email protected] by 31 July 2003.
