Preliminary programme announced for international EBVM Conference

We have announced the preliminary programme for the 1^st International Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine Network Conference, taking place on 23-24 October this year at Beaumont Estate in Windsor, UK. 

The sessions and speakers for the programme have been chosen from around the world to provide those in practice with the information and tools they need to deliver evidence-based veterinary care, says our Head of Research, Rita Jorge. 

Dr. Jorge adds: “This is the first time the international veterinary community will come together under one roof to focus fully on evidenced-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) and how it can improve veterinary care. Delegates at our 2012 symposium on EBVM were overwhelmingly positive about the opportunity to talk to people from diverse areas of the profession – this year we’re taking that conversation global.

“The conference offers speakers from the US, UK and wider Europe who all have practical experience and knowledge of how to utilise EBVM principles and solutions at the point of care. We have over 100 attendees booked already from across the globe, from Australia to Ethiopia.”

Sessions from the preliminary programme include:

• “Don’t trust everything you read: bias in the literature” led by Brennen McKenzie (Adobe Animal Hospital, US) and Sebastian Arlt (Free University of Berlin)
• “Clinical records: tools and affordable solutions for EBVM at the point of care” led by Stuart Turner, (Leafpath Informatics, US)
• “The veterinary caseload: what are the most common conditions and how can we use this information?” led by David Brodbelt (Royal Veterinary College)
• “Evidence-based clinical guidelines: RECOVER (critical care), ICADA (dermatology) and AGREE II (evaluation)” led by Daniel Fletcher (Cornell University), Douglas DeBoer (University of Wisconsin) and Mirjam Nielen (Utrecht University)
• “Can ‘alternative’ medicine be evidence-based?” led by Brennen McKenzie
