New course encourages veterinary professionals to improve outcomes by analysing human interactions and processes
11 June 2024
"When’s the last time you thought about the impact human interactions between your team are having on your patients? What about the processes you use to deliver care?
“Every veterinary professional wants to achieve good outcomes, but the role that Human Factors and systems can play is sometimes overlooked. Making sure that your processes are well-designed, and understanding how the people in your team interact with them can optimise the quality of care you provide, while improving team wellbeing,” said Pam Mosedale, Quality Improvement Clinical Lead at RCVS Knowledge.
“That is why we’re delighted to announce the launch of free, practical support on Human Factors and Systems Thinking for all veterinary teams.”
We have released the seventh series of our Quality Improvement Boxset – Introduction to Human Factors and Systems Thinking. The free online resource will help veterinary professionals learn non-technical skills to improve quality, patient safety, and team wellbeing.
The Boxset was made possible thanks to Human Factors and Systems Thinking experts from across human and veterinary healthcare, who contributed their time and expertise. The result is a resource, created by professionals, for professionals, to support veterinary teams to continuously improve care quality.
The Human Factors content supports teams to consider interactions between people and their environment, so that they can use this knowledge to optimise patient care and outcomes. Meanwhile the content on Systems Thinking looks at how well-designed systems in practice can help achieve better results.
The Quality Improvement Boxset provides learning materials, supporting tools, and templates that can help anyone in practice reflect, share learnings, and start implementing recognised techniques in practice for the betterment of patients, clients, and team members.
The resources support teams to put structures in place to establish a learning culture and work together to support the safety and wellbeing of one another, so that they can continue to provide safe, quality care for patients.
Designed to be accessible to the whole veterinary team, the seventh series of the QI Boxset can be accessed for free at RCVS Knowledge Learn: learn.rcvsknowledge.org
