RCVS tache-team raise over £2,300 in slow-Mo growing show
1 December 2010
All Taches Great & Small – the 12-strong team of gents on the RCVS staff who finished their Movember challenge yesterday – has amassed over £2,300 in a sponsored moustache-growing effort to raise funds to help combat prostate cancer.
“It’s been a tough 30 days for all of us,” said Team Captain Simon Wiklund yesterday, at the official end of ‘Movember’ – an international fundraising campaign that aims to change the face of men’s health by asking participants to grow a moustache – or ‘Mo’ – for a month and raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
"You can’t fail to be impressed by the efforts the chaps have gone to, to raise funds for such a worthy cause." Peter Jinman, President
“Some people cycle across mountain ranges or throw themselves out of aeroplanes to raise money,” said Simon. “However, what we might have avoided in terms of energy expenditure and courage, we tackled head on in the shape of continuous whiskery discomfort and public ridicule!”
RCVS President Peter Jinman assumed a new role as Judge Dreadlock at Belgravia House yesterday, to decide which RCVS ‘MoBro’ should win the coveted prize of Best Tache in Team. “I’m more used to vetting a horse than measuring a Mo, to be honest,” said Peter, “but you can’t fail to be impressed by the efforts the chaps have gone to, to raise funds for such a worthy cause.”
In the face of tough competition, Facilities Coordinator Tom Winters was selected as Best Tache, and duly presented with his prize: a bottle of wine and a new razor.
Communications Manager Ian Holloway was awarded Best Mo-neymaker, with an individual fundraising effort totalling some £540 to date. “Friends, family and colleagues have all been very generous,” said Ian. “I’m chuffed to have been able to raise so much money and very grateful for all their support.”
Echoing this vote of thanks, Simon said: “On behalf of the team, my sincere thanks to everyone who has supported our Movember efforts so generously. All Monations, great and small, have been very greatly appreciated.”
