RCVS Knowledge is excited to join the Network on quantification of veterinary Antimicrobial usage at herd level and Analysis, Communication and benchmarking to improve responsible usage (AACTING) for their fourth International Conference, to be held in Vienna on the 1st and 2nd of February 2024.

The AACTING Conference delivers two days of relevant, innovative presentations and engaging meetings for researchers, policy makers, students, and all other stakeholders involved and interested in the fields of collection, quantification, benchmarking, and reporting of animal antimicrobial use, its current work, and future challenges.

Friday 2nd February

VetTeamAMR: The UK collaboration to improve responsible use - Rosie Hughes

Rosie will be presenting the work done by VetTeamAMR on the theme of ‘working together to improve responsible use’. It will highlight the need for collaboration in the veterinary industry, working together to achieve a common One Health goal for better antimicrobial stewardship.

VetTeamAMR has been working nationally and across all species, to empower and encourage vet teams on how they can improve their quality of care, through education and audit tools.  She will discuss the work done by RCVS Knowledge, why it is so important, and how it ties into the targets set for the UK.

Rosie Hughes, RCVS Knowledge Antimicrobial Resistance Project Officer, BVMS MRCVS

Rosie HughesRosie is a registered veterinary surgeon, who before joining RCVS Knowledge in November 2023, spent over 9 years in clinical practice. Most of her work was in a mixed practice role in both private and corporate organisations. She spent 5 years working overseas in New Zealand, where she combined her love of travel with acquiring clinical experience in different farming systems.

Rosie has always been passionate about animal welfare and the quality of care provided to her patients. This includes appropriate antibiotic stewardship and the importance of doing our part to reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the veterinary sector.

Her role within RCVS Knowledge as Antimicrobial Resistance Project Officer is to coordinate and help support the VetTeam AMR initiative. This includes working with steering groups, stakeholders, and multiple professional bodies to help veterinary professionals tackle AMR.
