RCVS Knowledge responds to practitioner interest with EBVM Skills Day

26 March 2015

Tickets on sale now!

Speakers at EBVM eventIn response to requests from practitioners, we have announced the Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine (EBVM) Skills Day, a one-day seminar offering essential tools to implement evidence-based principles in a busy veterinary practice. Tickets are now on sale for the event, which takes place at Church House, London on 30 October 2015 and will provide six hours of CPD for £170 including VAT.

The Skills Day programme is aimed at closing the gap between EBVM theory and daily veterinary practice, says our Executive Director, Nick Royle.

He says, “At last year’s conference, EBVM 2014, practitioners were asking, ‘What’s next? What can I do in practice tomorrow?’ That’s exactly what Skills Day is about – helping front-line veterinary professionals to add to their toolkit for ‘everyday EBVM'.”

He adds, “The Skills Day offers answers to those questions we’ve been hearing from practitioners: What’s the most efficient way to find evidence for my clinical questions? How do I go about doing a study in practice? How can EBVM contribute to improved clinical outcomes and how can I use clinical auditing to monitor my practice’s performance?”

The day will combine plenary talks with interactive breakout sessions and extensive networking opportunities.

Breakout sessions include:

  • Critically appraising a paper and running a journal club
  • Getting your findings published
  • How to critically assess sales pitches

The programme includes plenary sessions from Mark Baker, Director for the Centre of Clinical Practice (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) who will be talking about how doctors make decisions, and Elizabeth Jackson, Lecturer in Business (Royal Veterinary College) who will be talking about the business case for EBVM.
