Join us at BVNA Congress 2022 from Friday 7th October to Sunday 9th October.

Infection control policies are crucial for practices to protect patients, staff, and clients. Ensuring that your infection control procedures are up to standard can minimise the risk of infection spreading to other patients and humans. Veterinary nurses play a critical role in the infection control team, particularly with the development of policies, training, implementation, and monitoring.

High standards of clinical practice should be maintained through training and clearly displayed protocols – including clean techniques, hand washing, aseptic surgery, isolation, and barrier nursing.  Clinical audits are another key factor in monitoring the effectiveness of infection control and can help to identify and implement changes to make improvements. This can include training, adherence to protocols, post-operative and other nosocomial infections, prevalence of AMR and antibiotic use protocols.

In this session, you will learn about the need for and roles of infection control teams, how to implement effective infection control strategies, and how to perform clinical audits to monitor their effectiveness.

Resources have been produced by BSAVA, FECAVA, BEVA, RCVS Knowledge, the Bella Moss Foundation and others.
