Farm Vet Champions

Antibiotic stewardship in farm animal practice

Cows and sheep on a farm

RCVS Knowledge has embarked on a major collaborative project to unite and empower UK farm animal veterinary practitioners as they establish good antimicrobial stewardship in practices and on farms.

The project supports the agricultural veterinary professions to continue to improve animal health and welfare standards, and aims to provide positive inspiration and leadership towards One Health efforts.

The project promotes the appointment of Farm Vet Champions (FVCs) within practices throughout the UK. These champions will have access to a free-to-use online learning platform providing training on good practice stewardship principles for different farm animal species, with the opportunity to set individual and practice goals in antimicrobial prescribing and track progress towards these.

There is no upper limit on the number of vets within a practice who can become Farm Vet Champions, and veterinary professionals will be able to carry this status with them if they move between practices. The first phase of the project is funded by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and is supported by a range of veterinary associations.

This project is currently being developed with plans to launch this Spring. RCVS Knowledge is keen to gather names and details of individual vets or practices who want to register an interest in being involved.
