The Evidence Awards

11 January 2016

The Evidence Awards celebrate excellence in the theory and practice of Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine (EBVM) and are designed to bridge fundamental knowledge gaps pre-existing in the veterinary field, to facilitate our core mission of advancing EBVM.

Vets walking on farmEntry to the Evidence Awards is made through submission of high-quality papers submitted in Veterinary Evidence - the go-to EBVM resource for the veterinary profession. Prizes include up to £500 in cash along with full tickets to Veterinary Evidence Today - The 2016 EBVM Network Conference, and entry is open to all.

The Evidence Awards will be awarded across a variety of topics, ranging from virology to farm animal health. Papers will be chosen on their originality, their contribution to EBVM in general and to the chosen subject in particular. Methodological papers in particular should make a recognisable contribution to forwarding their chosen topic.

The Evidence Awards celebrate impact on practice which is measured through the amount of use, citations and social media shares that the publication receives. It is this level that is considered when the winning papers are selected; therefore papers submitted earlier in the year are likely to have an advantage over those submitted later. Knowledge Summaries prepared by practising members of the profession that address priority areas and topics will be particularly welcomed.

“Evidence without impact is like a blunt nail. Pointless and futile. This is reflected in the awarding criteria – the earlier you submit, the more impact is possible within the awarding year, and the more likely you are to win an Evidence Award.”   Nick Royle, Executive Director, RCVS Knowledge

Knowledge Summaries should meet the published standards for format and content. Where a suite of three knowledge summaries is requested, these should be related so that, taken together, they better address a particular topic and improve the practising clinician’s ability to offer appropriate treatment.

All awards and prizes will be presented at an Evidence Awards dinner, during the annual EBVM Network Conference – Veterinary Evidence Today 2016. The event will be held at ‘The Hub’, one of Edinburgh’s most iconic locations, located at the top of the city’s famous Royal Mile. The event includes a drinks reception, alongside a three-course meal and live ceilidh.

Only papers published in Veterinary Evidence before Saturday 1 October 2016 will be eligible. Papers missing the deadline for any one awards year will still be eligible for the following awards year.
